LETHBRIDGE HERALD
A pair of streaks continued as the Lethbridge Bulls posted another Western Major Baseball League victory Thursday night.
Bulls outfielder    Brandon Bufton upped his hitting streak to an impressive 28 games in his first at-bat of the night as the Bulls downed the Moose Jaw Miller Express 9-7. The win improves the Bulls to a league-best 24-7 and gives the team its fourth straight win as the teams get ready to go back at it in the rematch tonight at 7:05 p.m. at Spitz Stadium.
The Miller Express loaded the bases with one out in the first, but Bulls starting pitcher Tyler Gibson was able to induce a double play off the bat of Moose Jaw catcher Ryan Thrasher to end the threat.
The Bulls went up 1-0 in their half of the first when Cody Stewart walked to lead off, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and stole third on a throwing error from right field when Mitch Dornblut flied out.
Stewart then scored on a single by Bufton, who is batting .374 on the season for the Bulls.
Moose Jaw knotted the scored at 1-1 when Miles Orscheln scored on a single to centre off the bat of Jeremy Stidham and went up 2-1 when Chris Suarez singled to score Ty Russell. The visitors made it 3-1 on an RBI single by Ben Douglas.
The Miller Express put runners on the corners with one out in the third, but Gibson was able to induce his second double play off the game to end the threat.
Clark Grisbrook came in to pitch for the Bulls in the top of the fourth.
The Bulls pulled within one in the fourth when Jacob Caples homered to left and tied it 3-3 when Ryan Pidhaichuk scored from third on a throwing error.
Moose Jaw regained the lead in the top of the seventh when Stidham singled and ultimately scored on a Derek Cornell double.
But the Bulls blew the game open in their half of the seventh as Evan Comeau scored on a single from Bufton to tie it 4-4.
Lethbridge took the lead for good when Mitch Dornblut singed to score Stewart and Bufton off of Moose Jaw reliever Brad Danzeisen for a 6-4 lead.
The Bull kept the bats hot as Dornblut scored on a double by Josh Day for a 7-4 lead and went up 8-4 when Day scored on a throwing error from second base.
Pidhaichuk rounded out the six-run inning as the Bulls carried a 9-4 lead into the eighth inning.
Moose Jaw made a late push with one run in the eighth and two more in the ninth, but the seventh-inning outburst was enough to secure the Bulls the win.
Stewart went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, while Bufton was also 2-for-4 with one run scored and two RBI. Caples also had a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI.
Bulls pitcher Clark Grisbrook came on in the fourth inning in relief of Gibson to earn the win, pitching four innings and allowing one run on two hits and striking out two. Reno Dupuis pitched two-thirds of an inning to earn the save.
Following tonight’s game, the Bulls hit the road to Okotoks to face the Dawgs Saturday and complete their road swing Sunday when they head to Medicine Hat to face the Mavericks.
