Harvey’s dad Lee Duck, established Lee Duck Dry Cleaners in 1914. When he retired, LD passed the business onto his three sons Jimmy, Harvey & Jack, who became co-owners. Dad’s favourite past times were fishing, hunting, cooking and gardening.
Harvey almost drowned 60 years ago while fishing and his brother Jack saved his life. Dad decided the next day to join the YMCA and learn how to swim. It was there he discovered a passion for weightlifting with coach Gordie Kay. Sam McGee was his racquetball friend. When Sam and dad turned 88, the YMCA honoured them with a lifetime membership. In return they posed for an ad in the LA Herald that said “you’re never too old to join”.
The only time dad skipped his weekly trip to the Y, was when his favourite team, the Toronto Blue Jays, were playing ball on TV.
A Celebration of his Life will be held on Saturday May 30 at Anton’s Lethbridge Lodge Hotel at 1:00 pm.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Those who wish, memorial donations may be made to the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign (515 Stafford Dr. S. Lethbridge AB T1J 2L3).

Dirk Wever
1943 – 2015
Dirk Wever, beloved husband of Annamarie Wever, passed away in Taber on Friday, May 22, 2015 at the age of 71 years.
Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Dirk’s life with the family at the Heritage Inn, 4830 – 46 Avenue, Taber on Sunday, May 31, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. Condolences may be forwarded by visiting our website at http://www.southlandfuneral.com.
Besides his loving wife, he is survived by his two children, Martien (Vanessa) Wever of Granum and Diana (Jason) Mahortoff of Vernon, British Columbia; five grandchildren Sara (Jacey), Austin, Nolan, Abby and Katie and two great-grandchildren Hunter and Kashin. Dirk is also survived by nine siblings and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Jacob and Catharina Wever and his brothers Mike and John Wever.
Dirk was born on July 19, 1943 in the Netherlands and the family immigrated to Canada in 1953. He met and married his wife, Annamarie, in 1971 while in the Netherlands. Dirk and Annamarie eventually settled in Taber, where he worked at the Taber Hospital for twenty three years until his retirement in 2008.
Dirk had many passions in his life, but his three main ones were his family, gardening and coins. During the summer, it was rare for anyone to leave the house without an armful of vegetables and his flower gardens would often cause people to stop and comment. For over twenty five years he ran a small coin business called The Coin Place and he was a fixture at the Lethbridge Farmer’s Market for twenty three years. He will be dearly missed by his family and the many friends he made over the years.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Dirk’s name may be made directly to the Canadian Cancer Society, 317 – 10 Street South, Lethbridge, Alberta T1J 2M7.
