Re: Lethbridge Herald: Gwynne Dyer: “Corbyn, Palestinians and Brexit” (Aug. 18)
Gwynne Dyer claims Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn is “not anti-Semitic, but he certainly could be described as anti-Zionist.”
Importantly, Zionism is the national movement for the return of the Jewish people to their homeland and the resumption of Jewish sovereignty in the Land of Israel. Anti-Zionism is the belief that the only people in the world that can’t have a state are the Jews.
Ergo: Anti-Zionism = Anti-Semitism.
Untold by Dyer is that antisemitic incidents reached a record level in the U.K., with the Jewish community targeted at a rate of nearly four times daily. There were 1,382 antisemitic incidents recorded nationwide in 2017 by the Community Security Trust.
Jeremy Corbyn and the Labour Party are accused of defending anti-Semites, allowing bigots to serve in its ranks, running a party mired for promulgating anti-Jewish conspiracy theories, for glorifying terrorists, being institutionally racist, and for showing contempt to Jews and Israel.
With Jews leaving Britain en masse due to pervasive anti-Semitism, the situation is by no means a tempest in the teapot. It’s existential and alarming.
