Kenney not working for Albertans

By Letter to the Editor on July 9, 2019.

Re: Alberta government accused of raining on Opposition’s good-news parade.

It’s increasingly hard to believe anything the UCP government says. It accused the previous government of lying about the state of provincial finances only to reluctantly reveal later that last year’s deficit is $2 billion less than predicted.

Why, then, should Albertans believe what the government says about its illegal attack on workers rights and wages in Bill 9, the Public Sector Wage Arbitration Deferral Act?

The government claims this is only a delay until we know more about the economic situation. Meanwhile it miraculously seems to know enough about that situation to proceed with tax cuts for profitable corporations, which began July 1 and will cost $4.5 billion over four years.

It’s clear that Jason Kenney is working for his corporate friends, not for working Albertans.

No, I would say its clear you are a Public Sector worker affected by bill 9

  2. Fescue says:

As George Monbiot said recently: “There are two ways of cutting a deficit – raising taxes or reducing spending. Raising taxes means taking money from the rich. Cutting spending means taking money from the poor. … state transfers wealth from rich to poor, while tax cuts shift it from poor to rich.”

Evina Lee knows who Kenney is working for.

Couldn’t agree more Kenney is a joke that is not funny.

  4. biff says:

dennis – is it you care most about number one, in your support of the likes of kenney?
i, as do the writer, fes, and manby, care most about the greater good. despite decades worth of lies and pocket stuffing via various corporate gifts – like corp tax cuts, grants, tax debt write-offs, and various other wealth injections that are taken from the public purse – the gains of the very few do not benefit the very many. trickle down economics has degraded the masses, while the relative handful has done very well, the past 40 years.

  5. baxter says:

Kenney is doing a great job of looking after whats best for Albertans.

For too long in this province and especially this country people have tried to live off the hard work of others. It is time to stop the gravy train for lazy slobs looking for their next hand out from people who actually put in a hard days work and earn their money.

Good on Kenney for not just doling out cash to useless public servants and union cronies like the previous government did. It is time to get rid of the waste and have people actually work for their money for a change.

  6. manby says:

Well that is a matter of opinion!

  7. Fedup Conservative says:

Let’s see baxter’s list of how Kenney’s policies are going to help us? My conservative friends would sure like to know, they see nothing that he is offering that will fix the mess we are in.

  8. Fedup Conservative says:

I would suggest everyone read the letters in the Edmonton Journal today and the one in the Red Deer Advocate from Ken Sears of Lethbridge. Then the excellent one in the Cochrane Eagle by Steve Durrell these people all have it right. Too bad baxter and his friends who have been fooled by Kenney just don’t understand that he is treating them like morons.

    • Dennis Bremner says:

After reading both articles and you Fedup, seems like there are a few disgruntled NDP ? Go figure? As far as the Sears Article I see zero value to it. Its not the Legislation but who lobbied the legislatures to stop the projects and where THAT money came from…..Google that Mr. Sears let us know what you get!
And…as far as the other article, NDP have a different set of buddies. Unions, who elect them and, solar windmill companies, that love them. Unions and Government get bigger under NDP rule and Solar Wind companies do exceptionally well. Under Con rule, Unions and Big Gov don’t do well and neither do stupid devices made for the home or farm and not the grid.
Both gov’s take from the taxpayer and both grease their appropriate “bro’s”. The trouble with the NDP here is “their bro’s” when greased is considered just normal but not “real grease” , its a different grease, not as greasy as the “other grease” its a “special NDP grease” lol

What idiotic comments coming from a guy who thinks he is such a wonderful Conservative he will support anyone who attaches the word conservative to their name and believes every lie he feeds them, even when they are well known Liberals. He did it with Klein and has now done it with Kenney, what a hero he is. Too bad he isn’t smart enough to understand what Kenney is promising to do to him.

Of course he has never spoken with any lawyers, accountants , bankers, former MLAs from the Lougheed and Getty eras , or oilmen, who can’t believe how stupid these ignorant Albertans are. There is nothing smart about electing politicians who are only interested in filling their own pockets and those of their rich friends with the people’s money and fully admit they are going to do it.

As a lawyer here in Edmonton use to say “Wouldn’t it be fun to haul their ass into court and watch them squirm while they tried to prove how smart they are. Hiding true hard facts with idiotic comments doesn’t make them look very smart and it certainly wouldn’t get them very far in court.”
