Re: Letter Nov. 5, “More police officers isn’t the solution.”
I am sick and tired of hearing that the SCS facility is doing nothing but bad things to this community. It’s driving me crazy and really beginning to upset me. These people write in or call in and put down the facility and say that it needs to be closed down. Well, everyone is continuing to hear only one side of the story. So I’m going to tell you about the other side of things.
My name is Patricia. I am a homeless drug addict. I am a speedballer, which means I mix fentanyl and methamphetamine. I have been using the services at SCS since the beginning and I am telling you, closing down that facility will be the biggest mistake this community will ever make. That will be when all us users go back to the streets and use there, or maybe the parks. Because where else is there? It will be such a problem that you will come to regret it for a very long time.
Now I know for a fact that SCS is not to blame for the crime in this city. Seriously, if you want to keep saying that, then maybe we should start blaming every car, pub and liquor store for the violent behaviour and complete stupidity that comes from drinking alcohol. How many car accidents are caused by drunk drivers every year? Does the driver or the bartender go to jail?
What you’re doing is pointing the finger at the wrong person. It’s not SCS’s fault, people. It’s the person who is committing the crime.
I am going to tell you something. If my husband Peter was using at the SCS facility on July 5 of this year instead of using at his dad’s house, he would be here with me right now instead of being six feet down in the frozen ground, resting in his coffin. And I, well, my heart wouldn’t be so broken, but it is and I cry for him.
Do you realize how many lives those absolutely wonderful staff members at the SCS have saved? Or did you not think about that?
