Drug addictions a health crisis, not a criminal matter

By Lethbridge Herald on April 18th, 2023

Editor: I believe that we have to look into the current drug addiction crisis more deeply than as a mere law and order issue. Neither is it a problem of homelessness nor of a certain racial group. Without recognizing those deeper and wider issues, the problem will never go away. Remember during 1920’s the U.S. ... Read More »

Private health care will crush some under a load of debt

By Lethbridge Herald on April 15th, 2023

Editor: I suspect not too many of your readers will have run across the following bit of news out of the States. The members of Trinity Moravian Church in Winston Salem, North Carolina purchased nearly $3.3 million of local residents’ medical debt for just $15,048.  Then, they held a debt jubilee ceremony and burned up ... By Lethbridge Herald on April 15th, 2023

Editor: On January 2, 2021 Donald Trump made the infamous call to State of Georgia Secretary of State Mr. Raffensperger to find him some votes and he explained that there was nothing wrong with the call, in fact according to Trump it was a “perfect call.” Alberta Premier Danielle Smith talks to a preacher by ... Adding parking and bike lanes will be a waste of money

By Lethbridge Herald on April 14th, 2023

Editor: Road conditions in Lethbridge are the worst I have ever seen in my 39 years of driving here. One could say our city’s priorities are in doubt. They are still considering funding tearing up 3rd Avenue all the way to Mayor Magrath to add more parking and a bike lane when our roads look ... Read More »

UCP budget a mismanagement of public funds

By Lethbridge Herald on April 14th, 2023

Editor:  The United Conservative Party (UCP) has embarked on an epic waste of taxpayer’s money. Anyone who pays taxes should be up in arms over the Alberta government’s new advertising campaign called Budget 2023.  While spending millions of dollars on an information campaign, for which there is no need or demand, is a gross mismanagement ... Taxi rate and regulation amendments a bad idea for city

By Lethbridge Herald on April 14th, 2023

Editor: Obviously city council has not had to take a taxi ride in Lethbridge after approving amendments to the taxi rates and regulations. What will be created in the industry is a monopoly and collaboration, not a competitive market. Council forgot years back the implementation of self-serve gas stations to save money, caps taken off ... Read More »

Safe alternatives exist to harmful pesticides and insecticides

By Lethbridge Herald on April 14th, 2023

Editor: What’s the connection between the Spring Garden Guide, and avian influenza? As I counted over 100 geese frozen in the river over the winter, it was motivating me to look more closely at bird health. CBC reports that North America’s bird population has declined 29 per cent over the past 50 years. That’s about ... Read More »

We need to make illegal drugs socially unacceptable

By Lethbridge Herald on April 11th, 2023

Editor: Drinking and driving have become socially unacceptable, and if you are intoxicated and injure or kill someone while driving, you are going to jail, plus more. You will still face stiff consequences if you are caught before you hurt or kill somebody. Smoking is socially unacceptable by the public, and when someone is smoking ... Read More »

Wind and solar power alone can’t provide energy security

By Lethbridge Herald on April 8th, 2023

Canada is a carbon sink so we shouldn’t be paying a tax on it

By Lethbridge Herald on April 1st, 2023

Editor: It’s true that there were vehicles back in the 1980’s and 1990’s that made better mileage.  My parents had a Geo that also made 60+ miles per gallon. But like all good things it was discontinued as well.  My letter was dealing with the so-called modern vehicles.  When the so called new laws came ... Read More »
