A 32-year-old man is in custody and awaiting charges after firing several shots in what police are calling a targeted incident at a west Lethbridge home on Sunday.

At approximately 9 p.m. the Lethbridge Police Service Tactical Team and other officers responded to a 911 report of shots fired in a home on the 100 block of Heritage Boulevard. Four people escaped from the home safely and the area was cordoned off as police attempted to determine the whereabouts of the suspect.

When the tactical team entered the home, the individual was not located on the premises. After clearing the Heritage Boulevard home, police went to a second location along Dalhousie Court West, but also found no trace of the suspect there.

Police say it was then determined the suspect had fled in a vehicle which had left the city.

The LPS contacted the RCMP at 1:45 a.m. Monday and members of the RCMP Emergency Response Team located and pursued the suspect. The suspect eventually pulled over near Granum and exited his vehicle.

When police ordered the suspect to surrender, he disobeyed and attempted to re-enter the vehicle, forcing officers to take him to the ground. The male was then taken into custody and transported back to Lethbridge, where he remains in detention awaiting an appearance in court to face charges.

According to the LPS, this incident is considered a targeted crime and the parties involved are known to one another. A further release will be issued as the investigation progresses and charges are sworn.
