A 62-year-old Lethbridge man is facing criminal charges of impaired driving causing death after a fatal collision on Highway 3 near Coalhurst in June.
According to a statement released by the Coaldale RCMP, a Toyota Corolla was heading east in the westbound lanes and collided with a Chevrolet Impala.
Douglas Bagnall, who was driving the Corolla, was allegedly driving with a blood alcohol level exceeding 80 milligrams at the time of the accident.
The driver of the second vehicle, a 42-year-old man from the Piikani Nation, died en route to hospital, while a 12-year-old girl in the same vehicle was taken for treatment of trauma and minor back injuries.
The Corolla driver was not seriously injured but was taken to hospital as a precaution.
Bagnall was arrested on Sunday, but has been granted release on bail with conditions while awaiting his trial.
Bagnall’s next court date will be at Lethbridge Provincial Court Tuesday.
