Wilson Middle School is gearing up to present Collage of the Arts 2019, an annual spring celebration of the arts. This year, the school will perform “The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe,” from today through Wednesday.

“The Collage of the Arts is a long-standing tradition at Wilson where we are proud to highlight the artistic talents of Wilson students and bring together all elements of art in one unique production,” says Judith Meunier, Collage founder and producer.

For the last few months, staff in the fine arts departments, along with about 50 students, worked to put together the adventurous play set in Narnia, with the theme of celebrating life, from the story by C.S Lewis. The program will also include the Wilson Concert Band and Grade 6 choir, along with elementary school choir’s singing.

“Our play this year is The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe,” says Caitlin Mitchell, director. “The story is of four kids who are taken into this fantastic magical place where they go on an adventure, they meet their villain the White Witch, and they meet Azlan their fearless leader who takes them on this adventure through the land of Narnia and gives them the courage they need to fight against the evil.”

Celebrating all of the artistic talent happening around the school, a popular component of the evening will include the inspired student art on display in the school foyer. Wilson Middle School’s Collage of the Arts has been an annual tradition since 1995, to celebrate the work of creativity that emerges from the school.

“Collage of the Arts has been around since I was a student that went here and it really is showing what I like about working with the fine arts department here at Wilson,” says Mitchell.

“I think that really shows up with the fine arts committee that we have here, we have really talented people in drama, art, band and choir, so it is a way to showcase the knowledge these kids are getting from that and I think that Collage of the Arts is a good way to show that with the kids.”

Wilson Middle School invites everyone to take part in the Collage of the Arts with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. and the production beginning at 7 p.m. Tickets are available for $7.50 each, online at wms.lethsd.ab.ca. The staff and students encourage people to come out and help support the arts in schools.
