Lethbridge will participate in a walk this month to support the needs of those with disabilities.
On May 26, communities across Canada will be participating in a walk with their pets for the Pet Valu Walk for Dog Guides.
The fundraiser is the largest of its kind and helps to raise, train and place dog guides with Canadians who have medical or physical disabilities.
According to the Canadian Survey on Disability in 2017, one in five Canadians face limitations in their daily activity due to disability.
Approximately 300 communities nationally will participate in the walk with hopes to contribute to the $17 million that has been raised through this event.
This money goes to the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides that is solely funded through donations and fundraising events such as the Pet Valu Walk for Dog Guides.
Dog guides cost an average of $25,000 but the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides provides the companions free of charge to qualifying Canadians. They have provided more that 3,000 Dog Guides across Canada.
