Lethbridge residents living with chronic pain will now have the opportunity to join a free Alberta Health Services (AHS) program, designed to help people manage their pain.
Better Choices, Better Health is a six-week series of workshops, led by trained volunteers, many of whom live with chronic pain. This approach in the program ensures an understanding of the challenges participants face and provides them with a supportive and welcoming environment, AHS said in a news release.
Chronic pain includes many different conditions from a variety of causes. Better Choices, Better Health focuses on teaching people tools and techniques common to all chronic pain, with an appreciation that there is no one treatment or approach that is right for everyone.
Some of the topics covered over the six-week series include overcoming the physical and emotional challenges of living with chronic pain, making positive nutrition and active living choices, moving easy through pacing and planning, as well as setting personal goals and acting on your plans.
Better Choices, Better Health workshops are one of many different services provided by the Alberta Healthy Living Program, which supports chronic disease management programming throughout the province.
Workshops will run from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on six consecutive Wednesdays, beginning next Wednesday. The workshops will be held at the Alberta Healthy Living Program office, 424 5 St. S. To register for the Better Choices, Better Health workshops, call 403-388-6654, or through a referral from your physician. Additional classes for managing chronic pain and chronic disease are being planned for this fall.
