The City is reminding residents that much of 3 Avenue South will be closed this evening for the Street Wheelers Controlled Cruise.
Motorists are advised from 6:30 p.m. to midnight, 3 Avenue South will be closed between 4 Street and Mayor Magrath Drive South. Parking along this section of 3 Avenue South, and some areas around Galt Gardens, will not be permitted from 5 p.m. to midnight.
During this period, northbound and southbound motorists travelling on 13 Street South or Stafford Drive South should expect delays at 3 Avenue South intersections. Motorists are encouraged to instead use Mayor Magrath Drive and Scenic Drive as alternative routes.
Meanwhile, the Lethbridge Police Service is also reminding participants and spectators it will be out in force during the Street Wheelers parade to ensure traffic laws are being followed. All spectators are being reminded that liquor consumption on the street is prohibited and must be contained within licensed beer gardens and establishments only.
According to the LPS, in past years following the cruise with heavy vehicle traffic still on the road, there have been challenges with speeding, stunting, distracted driving, impaired driving, liquor offences and other violations.
Police and Alberta Sheriffs will have additional resources on duty during the cruise night and LPS will be on patrol throughout the city all weekend.
