City of Lethbridge officials say they anticipate construction to wrap up on the Whoop-Up Drive bridge coating project by the end of this week – with all lanes reopening to traffic.
Starting this evening, contractors will reduce westbound Whoop-Up Drive to one lane as they remove the construction barriers. On Friday evening, eastbound traffic will be reduced to a single lane for the same purpose.
Both of these closures will be in place from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. to minimize the impact to traffic, officials say. The road will be fully open in both directions on Saturday morning.
“This project was required to protect the bridge and maintain safe conditions for residents,” officials said in a news release.
“The lengthy process of removing existing paint, sand blasting and re-painting the structure started this spring and was completed on time, despite the early snowfall. During the construction period, one eastbound lane and one westbound lane remained closed on Whoop-Up Drive for the safety of workers and motorists. Motorists are thanked for their patience and understanding as this important work was completed to protect our City infrastructure.”
