If you were craving for some new ink, or your first piece this Halloween, two local tattoo studios are teaming up next week to raise funds for student mental health in the community.

Libertine Tattoo and Nectar Fine Tattooing with be hosting a Halloween fundraiser for University of Lethbridge student mental health resources. Nine local artists, including Stephan Bernard, Craig Salomons, Kelsey Nicole, Selena Osborne, Brendan Browne, Brayden Baines, Tatianna Cook, Ro Curran and Andrew Page, will be donating their time to the event to help bring awareness to a growing issue.

“Lots of changes have happened recently in government and education spending and we heard there were some funding cuts to the student mental health department at the University of Lethbridge,” says local artist Cook. “We meet a lot of students in our work and they were overwhelmed by the pressure of balancing family, school, work and just everyday life. When you hear that there are already wait times of three-plus weeks, and now funding cuts, we are just trying to be a part of the solution.”

All of the tattoos will be done on a first-come, first-served basis and clients will have the choice of pre-drawn tattoos by all of the attending artists, where they will be tattooed by the first artists available. There will be a wide selection of pre-drawn tattoos to choose from, ranging between $100 and $300.

The night will also consist of prizes and silent auction items. The Halloween Flash Fundraising Event will take place on Oct. 31, from 11 a.m. until around 1 a.m.
