Two southern Alberta men have been charged with criminal offences after two other men were robbed earlier this week at a city mall.
Lethbridge police reported that at about 9:23 p.m. Tuesday two men approached a man in the Park Place Shopping Centre’s parking lot as he was cleaning snow off his vehicle. The suspects demanded the man’s wallet, and one of the men sprayed the victim with pepper spray. The man was able to drive away in his vehicle and call police.
A second victim was sitting in the front passenger seat of a nearby car when he was approached by the same two men, who demanded his cellphone. The second victim also managed to get away in a vehicle.
Neither victim was injured and did not require medical attention, police reported.
A short time later, patrol officers found and arrested the suspects inside the McDonald’s restaurant on Scenic Drive South and seized a can of bear spray from one of the men.
Chance Tristan Bennett, 21, of Calgary, and Bak Madut Nyang, 20, of Medicine Hat, are each charged with two counts of robbery. Both accused were released by a justice of the peace Wednesday and are scheduled to appear in court next week.
