Calgary man drowns while ice fishing

By Mabell, Dave on November 26, 2019.

LETHBRIDGE HERALD

A Calgary ice fisher drowned in Little Bow Provincial Park on the weekend after falling through the ice.

Vulcan RCMP report two men fell into the water Sunday, and one was able to get back to land. The second man, described as a 59-year-old from Calgary, was attempting to rescue the first when he, too, broke through the ice.

A third man used a rope to rescue the first who fell into the water, police report. Lomond and Champion fire department crews were able to recover the second man and return him to shore where paramedics tried to revive him. The victim was taken to hospital but died. His name has not been released.

As the incident is not being investigated as criminal, police say no further information will be provided.
