Every year, the YWCA Lethbridge Stockings of Hope campaign helps women in crisis experience some of the joy the Christmas season has to give, by providing them with much needed gifts and personal items.
Last year, people were able to donate to the YWCA enough to provide Christmas cheer to over 185 women and their families. With the number of women and their families experiencing crisis situations, the YWCA is hoping the community will continue its support as they hope to fulfil over 200 requests this year.
Stockings of Hope will be available for adoption in the YWCA Lethbridge lobby, starting on Friday. Unwrapped gifts are asked to be delivered by Dec.16 to allow time for the staff to sort, wrap and distribute the gifts before Christmas.
Each stocking includes a personal wish-list from a woman, and her children if she has them. These women are either using the YWCA programs and services, or have used them over the past year. YWCA prioritizes Stockings of Hope recipients based on need.
The YWCA also has a number of stockings that are on their wish list to help their clients. These are critical-need items that are required by their clients throughout the year, which they hold and distribute as needed. Items such as personal hygiene items, towels, pillows and blankets for women entering Harbour House, the women’s emergency shelter.
YWCA Lethbridge & District has been committed to enhancing the lives of women with programs and services that empower them, support equality and promote wellness since 1949. If you would like to help support women and their children in the community over the holidays, visit the YWCA to pick up your stocking for the annual Stockings of Hope campaign.
