On Friday morning, Lethbridge Fire Service water rescue team had responded to a call about a deer that had fallen through the ice along the Oldman River.
First responders were able to capture the deer and bring it safely to shore, where it disappeared off into the bushes.
With incidents becoming more common this time of year with freezing and thawing fluctuations, the City of Lethbridge is reminding people that if they see a pet or wildlife stuck on the ice, to call 911 and do not try and rescue it yourself. Water rescue crews are specially trained to do this type of work safely.
As a precaution to preventing your animal fall through or get stranded on the ice, keep pets on a leash and stay off the ice, even if it seem sturdy to walk on.
