Southern Albertans have still more opportunities to help others during the holiday season.
At Sobeys Uplands this year’s Time for Sharing Holiday Campaign, today until Dec. 22, will start with a food fair from noon to 4 p.m. today. Customers will be offered hot chocolate, cookies and samples of holiday-inspired recipes – and invited to make a contribution to the Interfaith Food Bank.
Sobeys Inc. has pledged to match customers’ donations that day – up to $250,000.
Meanwhile at Loblaws locations across the city, donations of nonperishable foods and cash are being accepted in support of the Lethbridge Food Bank and Interfaith Food Bank. And at both its No Frills stores, a Holiday Food Drive running until Christmas Eve will collect non-perishable food items as well as cash donations to help community members in need.
Donations are also welcomed at Loblaws other Lethbridge stores, the Real Canadian Wholesale Club and the Real Canadian Superstore.
And for motorists, Davis GMC Buick is holding its 24rd annual Free Lube, Oil and Filter event today, to benefit our two local food banks.
The dealership will provide a free oil change, lube and filter on a first-come basis. Tax receipts will be issued for donations of $50 or more in exchange for a minimum $50 donation to either food bank, from 8 a.m. to noon. Coffee and doughnuts will be on the house.
To date, officials say, the annual Davis event has raised more than $113,000 for the city’s food banks. Tax receipts will be issued for donations of $50 or more.
