A 50-year-old woman facing numerous criminal charges following a raid on a westside home earlier this month has been released from custody.

Cheri Ellen Komar was released following a brief bail hearing Thursday in Lethbridge provincial court, during which her mother agreed to post $1,000 no-cash surety.

Komar is charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a weapon obtained by the commission of an offence, possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of the proceeds of crime, possession of stolen identity documents, possession of stolen credit cards and three counts of breach of a recognizance.

Police reported that on Dec. 5 members of the priority crimes unit and field operations and criminal investigation divisions, searched a home on Assiniboia Way West.

Police found six people in the residence and seized a .22-calibre rifle, a small quantity of methamphetamine, a larger quantity of an unknown powder suspected to be a buffing agent, just over $2,000 cash, trafficking paraphernalia, stolen ID and credits cards and multiple stolen bicycles. Five of the individuals were released without charges.

As part of her release conditions, Komar must report weekly to the police station, obey a curfew, not possess any weapons and not associate with any known drug users. She must also live with her mother, who agreed to be her surety.

“Honestly, I’m more scared of my mother than I am of the police,” Komar told the judge.

Komar’s next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 23, when she also appears on charges with a co-accused from an unrelated matter during the summer.

On July 26 Lethbridge police, the organized crime and gang team, and ALERT Lethbridge seized drugs, a handgun, cash and stolen property, after searching a vehicle and a home in the Indian Battle Heights neighbourhood on the westside.

Inside the home, police found drugs with an estimated street value of $75,000, including 322 grams of methamphetamine, 13 grams of suspected carfentanil, 86 fentanyl pills, 20 grams of cocaine 802 grams of ketamine and $5,109 cash.

ALERT officers also found a loaded revolver and various amounts of stolen property, including jewelry. The firearm had its serial number removed.

Komar and Eldon Myers, 47, were jointly charged with possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking, possession of stolen property, possession of proceeds of crime, possession of break-and-enter tools, and five firearms-related offences.
