The Real Canadian Superstore and Real Canadian Wholesale Club in Lethbridge is joining other Loblaw stores across the country for the Loblaw Companies National Holiday Food Drive.
Until Dec. 24, Loblaw stores are asking shoppers to donate non-perishable food items and funds at checkout to help support local food banks. Nationally, the campaign aims to raise $2.3 million and 1.2 million pounds of food.
According to Interfaith Food Bank and Lethbridge Food Bank, an estimated 3,000-3,400 residents, 24 per cent of them children, rely on a food bank in an average month in Lethbridge and area.
All non-perishable food items are welcomed for donation to the food banks, but some of the most needed items include peanut butter, baby food, canned fruits and vegetables, canned fish or meat. Other needed items include pasta and sauce, rice, whole grain cereals and other dry foods.
All the donations will go to the Interfaith Food Bank and Lethbridge Food Bank to feed families throughout Lethbridge over the holidays.
