Students in Taber will soon have access to a special “sensory room” at St. Mary School.
The new facility is expected to be ready for use early next year, officials say, thanks to a $4,600 grant from the Community Foundation of Lethbridge and Southwestern Alberta.
“The sensory room will provide a place for students to self-regulate to a state of optimal learning,” explains associate principal Mark DeJong.
“I am very pleased that we will be able to offer a space to our students in which they can further address their psychological well-being.
“Furthermore, the sensory room will offer a great deal of therapeutic support to some of our most vulnerable students.”
Holy Spirit school division officials add they’re grateful for the funds from the Community Foundation. The room should be available by mid-February, they say.
