Blood donors urged to keep appointments

LETHBRIDGE HERALD

For many southern Albertans, the Christmas and New Year’s weeks provide an opportunity to take a break from the daily routine. But there’s no break in the need for blood transfusions.

So Canadian Blood Services is encouraging Lethbridge blood donors to book and keep appointments between now and Jan. 5.

The final weeks of December can be a challenging time to collect blood, officials say, with many donors busy with seasonal commitments that prevent them from visiting donor centres. That’s why it’s important that new and returning donors book and keep their appointments.

Missed or cancelled appointments at this time of year create difficulties, but donors are asked to call and cancel if they’re unable to attend. They’re also invited to re-book in January or February.

The donor clinic will be open for walk-in donations today, 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., with access available through doors at the top level of the parkade at the Melcor Centre.

For a later date, donors may book a time online at blood.ca or call 1-888-236-6283.
