Lethbridge Herald — Cardston
A man who was believed to be threatening a community peace officer
outside the Cardston RCMP office is now facing four charges of assault
with a weapon on a peace officer.
When a man confronted the officer outside the detachment on Tuesday,
police say, RCMP officers were called to make an arrest. Responding to
a series of commands, they say, the man put down the knife and
attempted to flee on foot.
A suspect was arrested a short distance away, police say. The knife
was seized, and no injuries were reported.
Brenden Kurt Eagle Speaker, 24, of Standoff has been charged with
possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, resisting or obstructing
a peace officer and failing to comply with a probation order, in
addition to the four assault-with-weapon counts.
Eagle Speaker was later released and ordered to appear in Cardston
provincial court on Monday
