Crime Suppression Team seizes gun, drugs

Three facing numerous charges

Three people are facing charges after Lethbridge Police executed search warrants related to drug trafficking activity at two northside homes.

In late March members of Crime Suppression Team initiated a short-term investigation into suspected drug trafficking at neighbouring homes along the 1300 block of 15 Avenue North. Search warrants were subsequently obtained and simultaneously executed on Thursday by members of the CST, Downtown Policing Unit, Patrols, K9, Economic Crimes Unit, Violent Crimes Unit and Intel Unit.

At the first home police located a loaded 9-mm handgun, 232 grams of cocaine, 561 grams of methamphetamine and nearly $20,000 in cash. At the second home police seized a forged/falsified Canadian passport, multiple identity documents and a stolen car insurance document. The estimated street value of the cocaine is $23,200 and the methamphetamine $56,070.

Liban Mohamed Hassan, 34, of Lethbridge is charged with: two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking; possess prohibited firearm contrary to order; careless storage of a firearm; knowingly possessing unauthorized firearm; possession of a loaded prohibited firearm; possession of a firearm obtained by commission of an offence; and possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000.

Hassan is remanded in custody and scheduled to appear in court Thursday.

Yusuf Abdisamad, 34, of Lethbridge is charged with: two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking; careless storage of a firearm; knowingly possessing unauthorized firearm; possession of a loaded prohibited firearm; possession of a firearm obtained by commission of an offence; and possession of the proceeds of crime over $5,000. Abdisamad is in custody awaiting a Judicial Interim Release hearing.

Betty Deanne Hancock, 48, of Lethbridge, is charged with: possession of a forged Canadian passport; two counts of possession of identity documents; and possession of stolen property under $5,000. Hancock was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court July 16.
