Danny Daryl Berdan knew what he wanted when last March he walked into Sexxxy Kitty on the northside.

He passed by the movies, toys, lubes and various novelty items available at the Lethbridge adult store, and ended up at the wigs. He chose one worth about $112 and walked out without paying.

Unfortunately for him, he was identified by closed-circuit TV and charged with theft under $5,000.

Berdan pleaded guilty Wednesday in Lethbridge provincial court and was sentenced to two days in jail. He also pleaded guilty to an unrelated charge of mischief causing damage under $5,000 and was sentenced to one day in jail.

That charge stems from an incident in March when Berdan was at the Sandman Inn, where on previous occasions he had caused problems and was told to leave. On this occasion, however, he was seen walking from the lobby to a door, which provides access to the attached strip mall.

The door was locked, but Berdan tried to force it open with a pair of scissors, damaging the weatherstripping around the door. The scissors also got stuck in the lock.

Although Berdan, who appeared in court by closed-circuit TV from the Lethbridge Correctional Centre, was given full credit for time he has already spent in custody, which concludes his three-day sentence, he remains in custody on other charges, including arson and possession of stolen property. He returns to court on those matters next Thursday.
