Police charge woman with arson

Lethbridge Police have charged a 27-year-old woman with arson after a fire damaged a downtown business.

On Wednesday police responded to a report of an arson at the Umami Shop located along the 800 block of 4 Avenue South. During the early morning hours wood pallets and cardboard that had been piled up against the building were lit on fire. Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services extinguished the fire, which caused damage to the store and overhead Telus lines. Video surveillance was provided to police and a female subject was identified.

Early Thursday morning police located the suspect and she was arrested without incident.

Total damage is estimated at approximately $6,000.

Mary-Lee Roy Parks, 27, of Lethbridge is charged with arson, possession of a controlled substance (meth seized incidental to arrest) and breach of an undertaking. She is in custody awaiting a Judicial Interim Release hearing.
