Police looking into downtown altercation

By Yoos, Cam on May 19, 2020.

LETHBRIDGE HERALD

Lethbridge police continue to investigate a report of a fight involving a group of people Friday night in the area of Galt Gardens and are asking anyone with information to come forward.

On May 15 at 8:07 p.m. police responded to a report of a disturbance along the 300 block of 5 Street South. The caller indicated a group of people were fighting in the street on the southwest side of Galt Gardens. At 8:09 p.m. police arrived on scene but the disturbance had broken up prior to police attendance and the parties involved had scattered throughout the park and down the streets.

After speaking with the complainant an officer canvassed the area in an effort to locate anyone who had been involved in the altercation or witnessed what happened. Several groups of males were located. The first two groups indicated they had not been involved in the altercation, and one male from the third group alleged he was in a fight but did not want to get involved in the investigation. No other witnesses, victims or persons of interest were located or pointed out at the time.

Later in the evening a video posted on social media, recorded after the altercation, alleged a black truck was associated to two males involved in the fight. The investigation is ongoing to speak to the owner of the vehicle.

Police are asking anyone who was in the area of Galt Gardens on May 15 between 7:30 and 8:30 p.m. and witnessed the altercation or has information that could assist the investigation, to call police at 403-328-4444 or Crime Stoppers 1-800-222-8477. Just another normal day in downtown Methbridge.

Do we know what REALLY happened here?
I have walked through the park often, going to the mall or just out for a walk and there are times when First Nations ask ‘what the hell are you looking at’ when I go by them, or I stop to look at a plaque in the park.
I even was taking pictures of the plaques to show my family and one older known FN gang leader that was sitting across the park told me ‘You had better not have been taking pictures of me’ as I walked by him later . . . which I wasn’t, but still he threatened me!

There is racism coming from First Nations often, but that is ignored!!! They take no responsibility and they think they own that park! Our leadership in this city have done nothing, absolutely nothing and I can’t wait for the next election! Many events refuse to use Galt Gardens as a venue, the Ribfest for one example!

Businesses that could have survived the COVID-19 crisis have fallen after struggling to survive the negative impacts of the SCS! This has been proven by two government studies, one paid for by the city that backfired and showed the large scale negative impact on our community and business, and the second was from the Alberta government SCS review panel, both stating the damning effects on business and the community!

YET . . . it is still open and contrary to SCS stating people will die if it closes, it didn’t happen when the hours were cut by 1/3 for the COVID-19 crisis. In fact, more people have died from the addiction/homeless related ‘diseases’ that kill them off more than fatal overdoses! Many of us that know ‘the streets’, walk the streets and work on the streets downtown can tell you that several homeless died from those diseases this year so far, not overdoses, but they are not documented.

Justin Trudeau has pushed this drug culture on us and our citizens no longer have a say or a choice according to governments . . . we just have to accept the high crime, the impact on our community, the international infamy as it grows and costs this city millions while burning out our fire/EMS/police as we continue to open our wallets and watch thousands of dollars that normally would go to the Cancer Society, MS Society or other charities go to Food Banks and support programs that support the addicts and homeless, about 200 addicts and homeless are causing all of these issues and costs, but the disinfromation released by the SCS says over 50o and as high as 700 . . . all lies! They count every person that comes in, even if they have already been in one or twice that day and add the other 17 services to the count! Still waiting for the truth to come out after the raid AHS did a couple of months ago that found several irregularities! The truth is coming!!!!

The cost will grow, the crime will grow, the numbers of homeless on our streets will grow and according our leadership, there is nothing we can do!

I cannot, do not condone violence to resolve these issues, but our communtiy is mad, they are tired of losses and thefts and they have had enough . . . sometime when you are bored look up the term ‘vigilante’ and ask yourself, “is this what happened in this case?” . . . it will only get worse and when you are tired of increased insurance premiums, thefts, public urination/defecation, high addcts wandering the streets and the tent cities that are coming to this city . . . thank Justin Trudeau and his drug culture that he pushed on this city and our city council that failed to listen to the pleas of our citizens. Vanouver is paying for Hydromorphone, an opoiod, as well as free Cannabis and alcohol in DC for the addicts and homeless . . . free booze and drugs, but free means the taxpayer is on the hook.
BC Provincial health officer Bonnie Henry “the drugs people receive will be based on their needs. She said regulated pharmaceutical alternatives, such as hydromorphone, will be provided to opioid dependents. Alcohol and cannabis will also be made available.”

Is that is what is coming to Lethbridge next?? If everyone sits back and says there is nothing we can do . . . it is!!

Write your MP, your MLA, your Council and tell them you have had enough and when the cutbacks that are coming hit, you don’t want to be paying for some addict to get high on your money, you don’t want to have to wait for an ambulance due to a CODE RED, because the resources are all tied up with addicts ( this is already happening ), and you don’t want to pay over $7 miilion per year for a SCS that generates more users and attracts them here from other provinces, and you want you downtown, parks and communities back!!

Millions are spent on related programs in this city to support the addicts, not treat them! It is all up to you, all of you! Where do you want you tax dollars, your healthcare dollars, you community to be?
