$62,000 in drugs, cash seized in ALERT investigation in Lethbridge

Three men have been arrested and more than $62,000 worth of drugs and cash were seized as a result of a short-term ALERT investigation in Lethbridge.

ALERT’s Lethbridge organized crime team concluded the month-long file on Monday by executing search warrants at two west Lethbridge residences. All told, investigators seized: 54 grams of suspected carfentanil; 101 grams of methamphetamine; 54 grams of cocaine; and $29,060 cash proceeds of crime.

Investigators also seized a Taser, two replica firearms and two vehicles. Lethbridge Police Service assisted with the arrests.

“The presence of carfentanil continues to be a major concern in Southern Alberta,” said Staff Sgt. Leon Borbandy, ALERT Lethbridge, in a news release. “ALERT is committed to doing everything we can to keep this harmful drug off the streets of the communities we serve.”

Leslie Cole, 29, is charged with three counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime, and breach of probation.

Brandon Bougie, 27, is charged with three counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a prohibited weapon and possession of proceeds of crime.

Anthony Jones, 21, is charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a prohibited weapon and possession of proceeds of crime.

All three suspects are scheduled to appear in Lethbridge provincial court on July 23.
