The Helen Schuler Nature Centre will be hosting a Food Forest Workshop Oct. 3-4 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., letting participants to dive into the world of food forestry and permaculture!
Mandy Sandbach of SOULfully SOIL will be leading the two-day hands-on workshop weekend. Participants will learn how to create long-standing, abundant, perennial food systems right at home.
Edible forest gardening designs will be discussed which can be adapted for small and large scales. The designs are an excellent choice for both urban and rural settings.
People will explore two diverse environments where you will discover what edible forest gardening can produce.
The series covers all aspects of growing an edible oasis including: water harvesting techniques; how to grow healthy soils; companion planting and guild building; plant identification and selection; site work pre and post installation; and Community and environ-mental implications
Cost for the two-day workshop is $180 and is open to anyone 16 years and older.
Each day will include an outdoor tour, so dress for the weather.
