Lethbridge Police Service called in their explosive disposal unit after what they described as several packages of concern were found while conducting a search warrant Thursday at a southside home.

Police arrived on scene at the home along the 800 block of 16 Street South Thursday afternoon with the warrant in relation to drugs and called the explosives disposal unit after discovering the items.

Neighbouring residents in the immediate vicinity were asked to evacuate while the unit removed the items of concern. The explosives unit was able to secure the residence early Thursday evening.

Police say five people were taken into custody and charges are pending.
