The Lethbridge School Division has been notified by Alberta Health Services that one case of COVID-19 has been identified at Victoria Park High School.
In a letter from School Division Superintendent Cheryl Gilmore to school parents, she said close contacts to the individual are being notified and instructed to quarantine for at least 14 days. Public Health also has provided recommendations to the school about cleaning measures and other control measures to reduce the risk of further transmission. If student’s family is not contacted, then the student is not a close contact and can attend school as usual following all public health guidance.
“Our thoughts remain with this individual that has tested positive and their family. We wish them a safe and speedy recovery,” Gilmore said in the letter, adding the school schedule will proceed as normal for Oct. 19.
“Out of an abundance of caution and as we continue our focus on preventing the spread of COVID-19, we have directed our custodial services team to conduct enhanced cleaning,” Gilmore added. “This additional cleaning will focus on areas where the individual was present along with high-touch areas and surfaces throughout the facility.”
The letter continued that the division will continue to work closely with AHS and the Medical Officer of Health in the South Zone to ensure ongoing recommendations are followed.
There were 49 active cases in Lethbridge as of Friday afternoon with 19 each on the south and westside and 11 on the northside. Lethbridge County has 37 active cases.
