On suspect has been arrested and a second is being sought by Lethbridge Police following two robbery/carjacking incidents late Monday and in the early morning hours of Tuesday.
In the first incident, at about 9:30 p.m. Monday, a vehicle left running and unlocked was stolen from in front of a business in the 500 block of 13 Street North. The driver exited the store when he noticed someone getting into his vehicle. He was unable to stop the car thief and suffered unknown injuries in the process. The vehicle, which had been abandoned after colliding with a parked car, was located by police nearby.
A track by the canine unit resulted in Police Service Dog Myke leading police to a home in the 2100 block of 5 Avenue North and Grant Tyler Williams, 35, was arrested without incident. The Lethbridge man faces charges including theft of a motor vehicle, robbery, dangerous operation of a vehicle and failure or refusal to provide a breath sample. Williams remains in custody awaiting a Judicial Interim release hearing.
In the second incident, Lethbridge Police are looking for a suspect and a vehicle stolen from a parking lot in the 400 block of 13 Street North at about 1 a.m. Tuesday.
Police attended the scene and were told the owner of the vehicle got out of his 1993 Buick Regal and went around to the passenger side when an unknown male got in and drove away. The owner unsuccessfully attempted to stop the thief and suffered minor injuries in the process.
The driver left the scene northbound on 13 Street. The suspect is described as a Caucasian male, about five-foot-10 with a scruffy beard and glasses and was wearing a tan, parka-style jacked with the hood up. The gold-coloured, four-door vehicle bears the Alberta licence plate FAF 426.
