Seasons Retirement Community has launched the 2020 Pennies for Poppies Fundraiser, running until Nov. 11 at Seasons Retirement Communities in Ontario and Alberta.
In collaboration with local Royal Canadian Legions, residents, staff and visitors can donate money to the poppy campaign when they visit a local Seasons residence. To celebrate the campaign a garden of paper poppies will be planted at each Seasons residence. This garden serves as a visual display of Seasons’ promise to never forget. All money collected for the Pennies for Poppies program will be donated to the Legion’s Poppy Campaign, via our local Legion representatives.
“Our annual Pennies for Poppies program is a meaningful fundraiser for both our residents and team members who have the opportunity to connect with the many veterans who have chosen to live with us at Seasons. This is one of the ways we look to honour and thank them for their service,” Mike LavallŽe, CEO at Seasons Retirement Communities, said in a news release.
Collecting money to support our veterans is always important, but especially this year when the pandemic has had a negative impact on so many charitable organizations. While self-serve poppy boxes will be available as usual, donation tables staffed by volunteers will not be allowed due to COVID-19 restrictions. The Legion’s Poppy Campaign will be relying more on direct donations and fundraisers like Pennies for Poppies to fund their programs. In addition, local Legion Branches are in need of financial support as they face financial challenges due to the pandemic.
