VICTORIA – The wife of one of two missing British Columbia sailors says her husband’s dream voyage has turned into a nightmare as the promise of a happy ending fades as days pass without word from him.

Leah Bliss says she last heard from her husband, Daniel Archibald, a month ago when he and his sailing partner arrived from Panama and docked a sailboat at Ucluelet, on the West Coast of Vancouver Island.

The RCMP says the disappearance of Archibald and Ryan Daley is considered suspicious and the investigation has been handed over to the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit.

Police say Archibald, who is 37, and 43-year-old Daley, were last seen May 16 leaving the Ucluelet harbour area on foot, carrying their backpacks and duffel bags.

Bliss says she is returning to Vancouver Island to search the many logging roads and ravines along the winding 100-kilometre stretch of the Pacific Rim Highway between Port Alberni and Ucluelet for signs of her husband.

She says she is having a difficult time dealing with the disappearance and it was especially hard to tell the couple’s two young daughters that their father has vanished.
