Several Calgarians homeless after big blaze strikes on hot, windy day

By The Canadian Press on August 7, 2018.

CALGARY – Upwards of two dozen people had to run for safety when a wind-whipped two-alarm fire on a blistering hot day severely damaged three Calgary homes.

The flames were spreading from one home to a neighbouring house when firefighters arrived at the scene in the city’s northeast around 5:00 p.m. Monday.

There were no injuries among a total of 21 people who had to flee.

The evacuees were placed on transit buses to keep out of the heat.

Calgary fire officials say three houses were left uninhabitable.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
