CALGARY – A man in Calgary suffered serious chest and pelvic injuries when he was struck by an unmarked police vehicle while walking across a street.
The accident happened in the downtown area shortly after 1 p.m. Tuesday.
Police say an on-duty officer who was driving a sport-utility vehicle was trying to reposition the SUV by putting it in reverse near a curb.
They say the 69-year-old pedestrian was crossing the street diagonally and was hit as he approached the back of the vehicle.
The officer was not hurt and investigators say speed, alcohol and drugs are not considered factors in the collision.
Police are looking for witnesses as their investigation continues.
