Death of man found in rural Alberta deemed a homicide, police say

VALLEYVIEW, Alta. – RCMP in Alberta say the death of a man whose body was found last month is a homicide.

Valleyview RCMP say 51-year-old Barry Goodswimmer was last seen June 16 in the Sturgeon Lake area, about 100 kilometres east of Grande Prairie.

His body was found June 30 in a rural location near the Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation.

Police say an autopsy conducted in Edmonton determined Goodswimmer’s death to be homicide.

Two men from Sturgeon Lake have been arrested and charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping and assault with a weapon.

Mounties say no further information will be provided, as the case is before the courts.
