Brandon Davidson has taken a step in looking for his next NHL home.
The defenceman from Taber who split last season with the Montreal Canadiens, Edmonton Oilers and New York Islanders has signed a professional tryout contract with the Chicago Blackhawks and will be attending their training camp, which begins Friday.
The six-foot-two, 210-pound defenceman who turned 27 Aug. 21 was drafted in the sixth round, 162nd overall in the 2010 NHL draft by the Oilers.
Davidson had four goals and seven points in 51 games between the Canadiens, Oilers and Islanders.
He started the season in Montreal before being claimed off waivers by the Oilers in early-December.
At the trade deadline, the Oilers traded Davidson to the Islanders, who did not offer the defenceman a qualifying offer in the off-season.
