Cougars earn volleyball win

Nash Shipton collected 26 assists and Catholic Central Cougars held off Immanuel Christian in Southern Alberta High School Boys Volleyball League play Wednesday night.

Jack Gaehring had 15 kills and Jens Watt added seven as the Cougars earned a 25-21, 25-17, 22-25, 25-19 victory.

In the junior varsity match, Adam Boras had five aces and a pair of blocks as CCH won 25-19, 25-16. Ryley Van Maanen added five kills and Ethan Staford-Mayer had nine digs.

In other games, Erik Godwin and Cale Vanderzee had 15 and 14 kills respectively as Lethbridge Collegiate Institute swept Cardston Cougars 25-15, 25-21, 25-19. David Kindley had 24 assists for the winners.

Chinook Coyotes needed four games to put away Winston Churchill, winning 25-21, 25-22, 23-25, 25-14. In the junior varsity game, Chinook rallied for a 23-25, 25-19, 15-11 victory.

Magrath Zeniths recorded three straight wins over Kate Andrews of Coaldale, winning 25-15, 25-18, 25-22.

In a Southern Alberta High School Girls Volleyball League match from Tuesday, Kate Andrews of Coaldale swept three straight from Picture Butte, winning 25-12, 26-24, 25-15. Kate Andrews also won the junior varsity match, 25-5, 9-25, 15-12.
