The Southern Alberta High School Volleyball League boys semifinals are set.
In quarter-final play Thursday night, the Chinook Coyotes defeated the Cardston Cougars 3-1 (25-23, 20-25, 29-27, 25-17), the Immanuel Christian Eagles downed the Magrath Zeniths 3-1 (25-18, 25-17, 22-25, 25-13) and the Catholic Central Cougars topped the Winston Churchill Bulldogs 3-1 (25-10, 23-25, 25-16, 27-25).
In their loss to Chinook, Cardston was led by Tyler Berry’s nine kills and five blocks, while teammate Zack Leavitt added seven kills and two blocks.
The game set up the semifinal Saturday as the Eagles advance to face the number-one ranked LCI Rams at 10 a.m. at the Catholic Central East campus, while the Cougars and Coyotes play at the Catholic Central west campus, also at 10 a.m.
The bronze medal game is at 1 p.m. at Catholic Central East with the gold medal game to follow at 2 p.m. at Catholic Central West.
The SAHSVL girls quarter-finals are tonight at Chinook High School.
At 6 p.m. the Catholic Central Cougars take on the Raymond Comets and the Coyotes play the LCI Clippers.
The second semifinals go at 8 p.m. as the Winston Churchill Griffins face the Coaldale Kate Andrews Pride and the Taber St. Mary’s Auroras square off with the Taber W.R. Myers Rebels.
