Versteeg signs in Sweden
Kris Versteeg is taking his game to Sweden.
The 32-year-old Lethbridge product who won two Stanley Cup championships with the Chicago Blackhawks, signed with the VŠxjš Lakers in the Swedish Hockey League Thursday.
Versteeg last played for Avangard Omsk in the KHL, scoring three goals with two assists in 11 games.
He last played in the NHL with the Calgary Flames, scoring three goals and eight points in 24 games in the 2017-18 season.
In addition to his two Stanley Cups in Chicago, Versteeg played for Toronto, Philadelphia and Florida before he was re-acquired by Chicago in November 2013.
He played the next two seasons with the Blackhawks then was traded again to Carolina, before stops in Los Angeles and Calgary.
The Lakers won the SHL playoffs last season for their second Le Mat Trophy since 2015.
They are currently in ninth place in the 14-team league with 13 regular-season games left.
