Horns, Bears, head-to-head

The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns and Alberta Golden Bears met 
four times in the Canada West season with the Golden Bears winning all 
four games. However, the Pronghorns managed to take one point off the 
defending U SPORT champions in a 4-3 overtime loss Nov.17, 
coincidentally at the Enmax Centre.
The following is a game-by-game breakdown between the two teams
Nov. 16
Nicholas Sheran Arena
Golden Bears 5, Pronghorns 2

Russell Maxwell opened the scoring for Lethbridge on the powerplay, 
but the Golden Bears scored once in the first period and twice more in 
the second and third periods for the win.
Dalton Sward — shorthanded — scored the other Horns goal.
Jayden Hart, Trevor Cox, Luke Philp, Jason Fram and Grayson Pawlenchuk 
— into an empty net — scored for the Golden Bears.
Pronghorns goaltender Garret Hughson made 38 saves, while Alberta’s 
Zach Sawchenko kicked out 34 of 36 shots.
Nov. 17
Golden Bears 4, Pronghorns 3 (OT)
Enmax Centre

Lethbridge’s Torrin White scored with eight seconds left in regulation 
to force overtime, but Alberta’s Philp ended the hope for the 
Pronghorns comeback, scoring on the power play with seven seconds left 
in overtime for the win.
Justin Valentino and Sam McKechnie added the other Horns goals.
Hart, Pawlenchuk and Tyson Baillie scored in regulation for Alberta.
Taz Burman made a stunning 56 saves, while Golden Bears netminder 
Kenny Cameron made 18 saves.
Feb. 1
Golden Bears 6, Pronghorns 0
Edmonton

Sawchenko stopped all 14 shots he faced and the Golden Bears got a two-
goal performance from Fram for the shutout win. Riley Kieser, Stephane 
Legault, Cole Sanford and Brandon Magee added the other Alberta goals.
Hughson made 53 saves.
Feb. 2
Golden Bears 9, Pronghorns 5
Edmonton

The teams lit each other up in their final regular-season game before 
the Golden Bears pulled away with four goals in the second period and 
three more in the third.
Connor Sanvido, McKechnie, Landon Gross, Derek Brown and Cameron Trott  scored for the Pronghorns.
Magee had a hat trick for the Golden Bears, while Fram, Ryan Rehill, 
Clayton Kirichenko, Hart, Sanford and Pawlenchuk also scored.
Burman stopped 13 of 17 shots and Hughson turned aside 18 of 23.
Brendan Burke kicked out 13 of 18 shots for Alberta.
