Training camp is over and the preseason auditions are done.

It’s time to drop the puck and start playing for keeps.

That will happen tonight when the Lethbridge Hurricanes take to the ice for their 2019-20 Western Hockey League home-opener as they entertain the Medicine Hat Tigers at 7 p.m. at the Enmax Centre.

The Canes went 1-2-1 in the exhibition season, their sole win coming in a 3-2 overtime win over the Red Deer Rebels Sept. 7 at the Enmax Centre.

They dropped two one-goal games to the Swift Current Broncos, a 4-3 overtime loss Friday and a 2-1 setback Saturday in Swift Current to end the exhibition season.

First-year forward Alex Thacker and Chase Wheatcroft led the Hurricanes in the preseason with one goal and four points each.

Rookie defenceman Rylan Thiessen scored three goals in four games and import forward Oliver Okuliar and overage defenceman Koletrane Wilson had three assists.

However, the Hurricanes will be without Wilson for tonight’s season opener after he was given a one-game suspension in Swift Current for a game misconduct.

After tonight’s game, the rematch moves down the road to Medicine Hat Saturday night.

The Hurricanes next game at the Enmax Centre is next Friday when the Rebels come to town at 7 p.m.
