Short Track Western Elite Circuit at Olympic Oval first
of three legs
Three members of the Lethbridge Speed Skating Association took part in a competition last weekend at the Calgary Olympic Oval – the first leg of the three part Short Track Western Elite Circuit (WEC).
The two-day event included men’s and women’s races at the 500-, 1000- and 1500-metre distances.
Mikka Eaves placed 24th in the female event while Jonnathan McIntosh and Riley Vanderburgh were 53rd and 55th respectively among male skaters.
All three skaters are T2T (Train-to-Train) and up against tough competition with many junior and neo-senior skaters from Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, the Northwest Territories, the United States and Singapore.
The WEC has the primary goal of providing quality racing opportunities for the developing Junior and Neo-Senior athletes. The circuit also includes: WEC #2 which will be held at Richmond, B.C. Oval in January and WEC #3 which will be held in February at the Olympic Oval.
