The LCI Rams football team will play into November.

The Rams defeated the Raymond Comets 13-8 in the Southern Alberta High School Football League Region 1 Tier I Final final Wednesday night at Comets Stadium in Raymond.

LCI trailed 8-0 before coming back with touchdowns from Jace Edwards and Spencer Stanko to post the win and advance to face Okotoks Foothills in the South Region semifinals Nov. 9 at 2:30 p.m. at the University of Lethbridge Stadium.

Still, it wasn’t a picture perfect win for the Rams Wednesday night.

“It was one those nights where the weather was actually pretty good, but things were a little sloppier than we wanted,” said Rams head coach Darren Majeran. “I don’t think that offensively we executed too well, but defensively I felt we did what we needed to do and the boys played tough. So it was good to see.”

The Comets went up 7-0 in the first quarter following a Rams fumble and made it 8-0 on a single.

LCI responded with an unconverted touchdown from Edwards to make it 8-6 at the half.

It stayed that way until late when Stanko struck for the go-ahead touchdown.

The win now sets up the semifinal match with Okotoks in a little over a week.

“We’ve already played them, so we’re looking forward to it,” said Majeran. “Our preparation pretty much stays the same. We traded film with them, so we can take a look at what they’re doing. We have fleshed out the entire game plan yet. It comes down to execution, because honestly, we didn’t execute great (Wednesday) and I feel in a lot of ways we were lucky. We’re certainly glad we won, you take the ‘W’, but we have to clean some things up to win on Nov. 9 and play again in the semis. At this time of year you have to execute on a high level.”

High school football playoff off action continues tonight.

The Cardston Cougars host Medicine Hat at 7 p.m. in the Region 1 Tier II Final, while in the Region I Tier IV final, the Claresholm Willow Creek Cobras are home to take on the Taber W.R. Myers Rebels at 7 p.m.
