Oliver Okuliar has jumped to the top of the Western Hockey League goal-scoring standings and the Lethbridge Hurricanes have extended their points streak to 10 games at 8-0-0-2.
Wrapping up a three-game road swing, the Hurricanes downed the Brandon Wheat Kings 5-2 in Western Hockey League play Saturday night in Brandon.
Okuliar scored his second hat trick in as many games to give him 15 goals on the season, tops in the league ahead of Aliaksei Protas of the Prince Albert Raiders and Bryce Kindopp of the Everett Silvertips.
Alex Thacker scored his first career WHL goal and D-Jay Jerome added the other Canes goal and had an assist, while goaltender Carl Tetachuk stopped 29 of 31 shots.
Hurricanes defenceman Calen Addison had an assist on Okuliar’s first goal to move past Brent Seabrook and into second all-time in scoring for defencemen with 177 points. Shane Peacock is the Hurricanes all-time leading blue-liner with 366 points.
Dylan Cozens had three assists Saturday to give him 25 points in 16 games.
The Hurricanes return home Wednesday night when they host the Swift Current Broncos at 7 p.m. at the Enmax Centre.
