Judo club brings home medals

The Lethbridge Kyodokan Judo Club won multiple gold medals last weekend.

The LKJC headed to Montreal for the Quebec Open Saturday and Sunday, bringing home 11 gold medals in the process.

The club wrapped up the event Sunday with six gold medals as Charlize Medilo (-48kg), Virginia Nemeth (-48kg), Alex Gagnon (-57kg), Joel DeMaere (-60kg), Brae Booth (-70kg) and Shianne Gronen (-78kg) earned first-place finishes.

Aliya Koliaska (-52kg) and Callie Render (-63kg) won bronze on Sunday.

On Saturday, the local club earned 12 medals.

Winning gold was Kiera Westlake (-57kg), Booth (-70kg), DeMaere (-60kg), Brynn Iwaasa (-44kg) and Evelyn Beaton (-48kg).

Caleb DeMaere (-50kg) and Coralie Pienkowski (-70kg) won silver medals and Sian Bresson-Adams (-57kg), Jordann Warner (-63kg), Medilo (-48kg), Koliaska (-52kg) and Meadow MacDonald (-57kg) brought home bronze.
