Back-to-back hat tricks that has vaulted him into the Western Hockey League goal-scoring race has earned Lethbridge Hurricanes forward Oliver Okuliar the WHL On the Run Player of the Week award.

The 19-year-old import from Trencin, Slovakia scored seven goals and eight points on the Canes three-game road trip through Manitoba as Lethbridge earned five of six points and extended their points streak to 10 games (8-0-0-2).

That included a pair of hat tricks, starting Friday in an 8-2 win over the Winnipeg Ice and Saturday in the Canes 5-2 win over the Brandon Wheat Kings to give Okuliar a league-leading 15 goals this season.

The six-foot-one, 185-pound forward started the road trip with one goal in Wednesday’s 4-3 shootout loss to the Ice and posted an assist in Friday’s rematch for the first four-point game of Okuliar’s career.

This back-to-back hat tricks made Okuliar the first Hurricanes skater to accomplish the feat since Mitch Fadden did so on Jan. 30 and Jan. 31, 2007.

He scored the Hurricanes first goal in each game and his output included two power-play goals and a shorthanded marker.

Okuliar has the longest active goal-scoring streak in the WHL with a goal in seven consecutive games. His eight-game point streak is currently the second-longest active point steak in the WHL.

This season Okuliar, selected with the 49th-overall selection of the 2019 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft, has 15 goals and 24 points in 18 games.

The Hurricanes are at home Wednesday night when they host the Swift Current Broncos at 7 p.m. at the Enmax Centre.
