The field for the Alberta Cup next weekend in Raymond is set and there will be one local team going for a Football Alberta provincial title.
The Claresholm Willow Creek Cobras downed the Drumheller Titans 48-7 Saturday in Claresholm to advance to this year’s Alberta Bowl, which runs Friday and Saturday at Comet Stadium.
The Cobras will face the St. Paul Lions – who beat the Ardrossan Bisons 19-14 – in the provincial championship on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Willow Creek’s Jackson Wright completed 15 of 20 passes for 344 yards and four touchdowns.
Brad Van Herk hauled in seven receptions for 180 yards and two touchdowns and Ethan Perry added six receptions for 134 yards and two touchdowns.
Drumheller’s lone score came early in the game when Conner Enns scooped up a fumble by Wright and ran in from 52 yards out to give Drumheller a short-lived 7-0 lead.
Another local team made it to the South Regional final, but fell one game short of the provincial final as the LCI Rams were defeated 17-1 by the Calgary St. Francis Browns in the Tier I South Final Saturday in Calgary.
The Browns will take on the North Region champion Edmonton Harry Ainlay Titans, who defeated the Grande Prairie Warriors 49-20 on the weekend.
The provincial championship for Tier I will take place Saturday at 6 p.m.
In Tier II the Okotoks Holy Trinity Academy Knights downed the Bert Church Chargers 35-22. They will take on the Edmonton Austin O’Brien Crusaders in the Tier II final Friday at 7 p.m.
The Crusaders got past the Lloydminster Barons 32-31 on Saturday to win the North region title.
The Tier III final will take place Saturday at 2:30 p.m. and will feature the Cochrane Cobras and the Lloydminster Holy Rosary Raiders.
Cochrane beat the Crescent Heights Vikings 42-0 Saturday, while the Raiders blanked Sturgeon Spirits 56-0.
